This article regards the male troops of the Sarafan featured in Legacy of Kain: Defiance. For the female troops of the later Sarafan, featured in Blood Omen 2 , see Sarafan Archer (Blood Omen 2) .

Sarafan Archers were an enemy class featured in Legacy of Kain: Defiance. They utilised a "long range arrow attack" and were seen in Kain's early chapters of Defiance, at the Sarafan Stronghold and the Pillars of Nosgoth.

Sarafan Archers often kept their distance from Kain and attacked from the back of a group, attacking using bows and shooting arrows that were on fire. Their uniform consisted of metallic looking armor with blue/purple clothing underneath, Sarafan Archers were weaker than other Sarafan troops, but their ranged arrow attack could be a major nuisance, especially in mass battles, hence Sarafan Archers were of a high priority in combat (best attacked first or after the spell casting Inquisitors, but before Zealots, Templars and Crusaders).

Like many of the Sarafan classes in Defiance, Sarafan Archers could be 'enhanced' by the spells of Sarafan Inquisitors.

Sarafan Archers were responsible for the many 'arrow shooting pillars' in the Sarafan Stronghold in Defiance (themselves a nod to a similar feature in Blood Omen); the pillars could be targeted using telekinesis, allowing Kain to pull a Sarafan Archer from the device.

Much of Kain's Defiance journey in Nosgoth's early history actually takes place some years after the conclusion of Soul Reaver 2 (hence a new Malek statue in the Sarafan Stronghold Coutryard), it is therefore possible that the 'Archer' rank was created in interim.

The uniform of the Sarafan Archers could possibly have inspired by the Sarafan Rahab's color theme as he wore blue clothing underneath his armor.
