Agnes[]

Agnes was an unseen, yet named, minor human character in Blood Omen 2. She was the spouse of a peasant whom Kain bypassed in the Slums of Meridian.

Profile[]

"My Agnes will have my head."
―First Man[src]

In the era following Blood Omen, Agnes resided with her husband in Meridian's Lower City during the Hylden Lord's regime. Shortly after his awakening, whilst training with Umah, Kain encountered Agnes's husband and another male peasant, discussing how they were to get home after the Sarafan had closed the whole of the Lower City for the night. The husband suspected that his wife, Agnes, would have trouble accepting this explanation for his absence.

Notes[]

  • Etymologically, the name Agnes has been variously translated as "pure", "holy", "chaste", or "sacred".

Durden[]

Durden was an unseen, yet named minor Human (non-player) character mentioned in Blood Omen 2.

Profile[]

Durden was a human who was apparently murdered by Vampires just prior to Kain's entry to the Lower City (or possibly before Kain's revival). In "In Darkness We Gather" as Kain entered the Lower City, he overheard two malepeasants discussing Durden's death "last night" and how he had appeared drained of blood; being the third victim found - the story served to highlight the fears of Meridian's human population.[1]

Notes[]

Durden's story showed that there were Vampires still present in Meridian (several Peasant NPC's up to this point had shown doubt as to whether the vampires still existed, or this was just 'a front' for the Sarafan [2]). Durden's murderer is not known but it may be Sebastian given his later feedings in the Lower City.

Ivan[]

Ivan was an unseen, yet named minorhuman (non-player) character mentioned in Blood Omen 2.

Profile[]

Ivan was likely aPeasant NPC, involved in some 'business dealings' with two Peasant females. When Kain passed through the Lower City in "In Darkness We Gather", he was able to witness one of the ladies, "Annie" angrily demanding money from Ivan, who was supposedly hiding in a locked house. Both women threatened and cursed Ivan through the closed door, but if Ivan was present, he did not show himself.[3]

Notes[]

Ivan's dealings with the two women and Annie's claims that he is "whoring away our money" may suggest that Annie and associate are prostitutes and Ivan, may therefore be their 'pimp'.[3]

It is unknown if Ivan was indeed hiding from the women in the locked house as Annie claims, or if he simply wasn't at home at the time.

Cadmus[]

Cadmus - referred to as "Cadmus the Merchant" in game - was an unseen, yet named minor Human (non-player) character mentioned in Blood Omen 2.

Profile[]

Cadmus was supposedly a merchant, who had recently left the city "in haste".[4] In "In Darkness We Gather", When Kain passed through the Lower City, he entered a large town square (by Southgate Tram Station), where he found a male Peasant NPC, selling off Cadmus' former "produce".

Notes[]

Cadmus may not have left Meridian by choice - the peasant selling off Cadmus' "produce" (as it is labelled on the stall) notes that it "seems he had to leave the city in haste" and he "left all this behind",[4] perhaps implying that he was either murdered, like Durden before him, or possibly (like humans in later chapters) he has been kidnapped and taken to the Hylden City as a Slave.

Cadmus is described as a "merchant",[4] but this would be unusual as the NPC's at this stage in the game are Peasants (Merchant NPC's will not appear until Chapter 7:The Canyons), it is possible that Cadmus' merchant status applies more to his 'job description', as it were (peasant NPC's are frequently seen selling produce at stalls). The NPC who replaces Cadmus is also described in scripts as a "Merchant"[4] (despite having a 'Peasant' character model)and accordingly he also works at a stall selling 'produce' - presumably both stall and 'produce' belonged originally to Cadmus himself.

The Chancellor[]

The Chancellor or more formally the Chancellor of Meridian was a title used by the leader of the city of Meridian in Blood Omen 2 and Nosgoth.

The title was first heard in Blood Omen 2 as Kain passed through the Lower City in "In Darkness We Gather" as Kain passed a lady attempting to gain access to the Sarafan Keep to pay her debts. It was unclear in these circumstances whether the title referred to the Sarafan Lord or another person.

The title was once again referenced in the backstory for Nosgoth where the title was used for the leader of Meridian and one Chancellor, Speyr, was named.

Joseph[]

Joseph was an unseen, yet named, minor Human character mentioned in Blood Omen 2.

Profile[]

Joseph was likely a Peasant, who had formerly owned a shop in Meridian and suffered from rheumatism. When he "lost his shop"[5] he was forced; despite his disadvantage to join the Sarafan as a guard (without being thoroughly checked) and was sent out to deal with "bandit attacks" [5](most likely the attacks in the Canyons) - an activity he was not expected to return from. Nevertheless him joining the Sarafan ensured that "his Marjorie"[5] (presumably his wife) would receive his pay and thus be able to get "passage to her sister's"[5].

In Chapter 3:The Lower City, Kain passed two Peasant NPC's discussing Joseph's whereabouts and the sacrifice that he had made for Marjorie. The peasants concluded that Joseph was "a brave man"[5].

Notes[]

The NPC's discussing Joseph are both peasants, perhaps suggesting Joseph himself was a peasant.

Joseph, though unseen, is a rarity in that he is a named minor enemy character (his former status as a NPC notwithstanding). Another named enemy character, "Serg" would actually be encountered (and probably killed) later in the same chapter.

Marjorie[]

Marjorie is an unseen, yet named minor Human character, mentioned in Blood Omen 2.

Marjorie was likely a human female Peasant, married to former shop-keeper Joseph. When Joseph lost his shop he took a post as a Sarafan Guard defending against "bandit attacks"[5]; an activity which would probably be fatal for him. Nevertheless the pay Marjorie would receive for his endeavor would allow her to "get passage to her sister's"[5] - most likely fleeing the Sarafan oppression in Meridian.

In Chapter 3:TheLower City, Kain passed two Peasant NPC's discussing Joseph's whereabouts and the sacrifice that he had made for Marjorie. The peasants concluded that Joseph was "a brave man"[5].

Notes[]

The NPC's discussing Marjorie and Joseph are both peasants, perhaps suggesting that the couple are peasants as well.

Sergio[]

Sergio was an unseen character mentioned in Blood Omen 2. He was probably a storyteller, regarded for using deus ex machina.

Profile[]

"It reminds me of Sergio's use of deus ex machina in order to resolve dilemmas of the ego."
―Man[src]

During the era following Blood Omen, when Kain explored Meridian's Lower City in search of Sanctuary, he could approach the exterior of the local Playhouse and overhear two nearby peasants – one a male patron of the arts, discussing "imagery mixed with impressionistic neo-modernism" with his bored female companion. Presumably referring to a play they had just seen, the man commented on how the pathos of the protagonist reminded him of "Sergio's use of deus ex machina in order to resolve dilemmas of the ego". The woman simply protested that she was hungry, obstructing any further intellectualism.[Blood Omen 2/3][Blood Omen 2/Miscellaneous]

Judging from the context of the man's description, it could be construed that Sergio may have been a famous Nosgoth storyteller, playwright, or artisan of some kind.[Blood Omen 2/Miscellaneous]

Notes[]

  • The environment surrounding the Playhouse includes what may be advertisements for plays named "Avenging Angels" and "The Village of the Insane". It is possible that one of these is the medium being compared to Sergio's work.[Blood Omen 2/3]

Plunkett[]

Plunkett was an unseen, yet named minor Human character, mentioned in Blood Omen 2.

Plunkett was a human fisherman who presumably worked and resided in the Wharves of Meridian with a sister (and possibly his father). Plunkett left to go fishing with friend Jack"at dawn"[6] the day before Kain's arrival at the Wharves. When the pair did not return, Jack's 'mother' ventured to the waterfront to find that the boat and fishing net were apparently untouched, perhaps suggesting the pair never made it to their boat.

The next day (In Betrayal (chapter)) Kain passed through the Wharves and along the waterfront, where he could encounter Jack's "distraught" 'mother' discussing the whereabouts of Plunkett and Jack with a more "apathetic woman"[6].

Notes[]

  • Plunkett is mentioned to have a sister (who hasn't seen him since he left with Jack);he is also referred to as "young plunkett" or "plunkett...the lad"[6], perhaps implying a father (presumably 'Plunkett Sr.') who shares the same name.
  • Neither Plunkett nor Jack has their NPC class identified; the women talking about them are Female Peasants, yet fishermen in the Wharves tend to use the Merchant NPC model.
  • Though the fate of Jack and Plunkett is unknown, Jack's 'mother's suggestion that the boat and fishing net were untouched (with the net still left in the bow she had tied it in the day before Jack and Plunkett left)[6] may mean that like other NPC's, Jack and Plunkett have been kidnapped and taken to the Hylden City as Slaves.

Jack[]

Jack was an unseen, yet named minorhuman character, mentioned in Blood Omen 2.

Profile[]

Jack was a human fisherman, who worked and resided in the Wharves of Meridian. His profession was apparently a 'family tradition' as his brother and father had both perished by drowning (suggesting a seafaring background) and consequently Jack himself "wouldn't have minded drowning".[6] Jack apparently lived with a female relative (possibly his mother or wife) and he left "at dawn"[6] one morning to go fishing with a friend "Young Plunkett".[6] When the pair did not return, Jack's 'mother' ventured to the waterfront to find that the boat and fishing net were apparently untouched, perhaps suggesting the pair never made it to their boat.

The next day (In Betrayal (chapter)) Kain passed through the Wharves and along the waterfront, where he could encounter Jack's "distraught" 'mother' discussing the whereabouts of Plunkett and Jack with a more "apathetic woman".[6]

Notes[]

  • Jack's female relative is labelled as "distraught woman"[6] in scripts and she is not named; neither are his mentioned father and brother.
  • Neither Plunkett nor Jack has their NPC class identified; the women talking about them are Female Peasants, yet fishermen in the Wharves tend to use the Merchant NPC model.
  • Though the fate of Jack and Plunkett is unknown, Jack's female relative suggestion that the boat and fishing net were untouched (with the net still left in the bow she had tied it in the day before Jack left) may mean that like other NPC's, Jack and Plunkett have been kidnapped and taken to the Hylden City as Slaves.
