Referencing sources can be a daunting process, but we've set up a few procedures to make it easier.

Basics[]

For starters, a place to display the references must be placed. If one is not already present, go to the bottom of the article (just above any navigation templates or categories) and add a section titled 'References', beneath it enter the text:

Reflist

This creates a blank box which will automatically display and number the references (see the bottom of this page for an example). Once references have been added, the References box will display a small summary of where the information can be found or a link to the information itself. References will appear in the text as a small number, which skips to (and highlights) the appropriate part of the reference section when clicked (and also provides a return link).

Adding References[]

References themselves are added into the main text of the article at an appropriate point using reference coding, though we have attempted to simplify this by creating a set of prepared templates for referencing purposes. Reference templates and coding can be duplicated multiple times on pages, where necessary.

Find a point in the text that needs referencing and click the nearest 'Edit' button. Now we have to establish where this information came from:

For simple and general gameplay observations[]

For simple or often seen observations - typically those that are not officially described - each game has a simple reference:

For dialogue and specific observations[]

For more complicated matters - typically those referenced in dialogue or seen in a specific place - each game has references by chapter or level.

Blood Omen 1 Chapters[]

Soul Reaver 1 Chapters[]

Soul Reaver 2 Chapters[]

Blood Omen 2 Chapters[]

Defiance Chapters[]

For Game manuals[]

For game manuals, only the manual itself needs to be referenced. Be aware though that some manuals varied by region and platform - the major variations are listed below, along with their cover illustrations to aid variant identification:

For Comics[]

For comics, only the comic itself needs to be referenced:

For Official Guides[]

For Prima guides, only the guide itself needs to be referenced:

SR2-PS = [1]

For Websites[]

Websites are slightly more complicated to reference. As they need to be altered and changed for each page, we cannot provide prepared templates for websites, but here is the basic formula:

then replace block capital terms with appropriate information:

 • NAME - give the reference a name; preferably in the format of 'Website-Title' or similar.
 • PAGEURL - full website address of the target page.
 • PAGETITLE - the title of the target page.
 • MAINURL - the full web address of main page of the website.
 • MAINTITLE - the name of the website.
 • AUTHOR - the writer or credited author of the material.

Properly completed, this becomes something along the lines of:

- which displays like this [2]

Websites important to the Legacy of Kain fandom will often have a few extra touches that can be added:

 • Icons (if applicable) - a small image to symbolize the game (if an official website) or website itself. Placed between the last '>' of the refname coding and the first '[' of the website url. Generally in the format Icon-X (where 'X' is replaced with game or website title or abbreviation)
 • Internal Pages (if applicable) - a link to an internal Legacy of Kain Wiki article, particularly on websites concerning LoK fandom and folklore. Instead of [MAINURL MAINTITLE] use TITLE

Websites that satisfy theses conditions are rendered as something along the lines of:

- which displays like this [3].

or

- which displays like this [4]
