"You have much to learn, Raziel. When you are ready, this barrier will be dissolved."
―The Elder God[src]

Force fields were magical barriers, controlled and utilized by the Elder God in both the Material Realm and the Spectral Realm. The Elder used these to restrict Raziel's movements at the beginning of Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver, while introducing him to his capabilities as an "angel of death".

Profile[]

Force fields were hexagonal planes which pulsed with blue energy, conjured and controlled by the Elder God at will.[Soul Reaver][Soul Reaver strategy guide (Prima)] They only appeared at the beginning of Raziel's quest, before doorways and corridors in and immediately beyond the Underworld. When Raziel was educated regarding warp gates, soul devouring, gliding, Sluagh, planar portals, vampires and blocks, a force field would prevent him from prematurely bypassing the lesson.[Soul Reaver/1]

The force fields were impassable. If Raziel approached one, the Elder God would advise him that it would dissolve as soon as Raziel was ready to continue. True to his word, the Elder retracted each barrier as soon as Raziel became proficient in his new abilities. After Raziel first shifted into the Material Realm, defeated two fledgling Dumahim vampires and manipulated a block, the Elder God ceased using force fields to impede him, probably satisfied that he had learned enough to survive.[Soul Reaver][Soul Reaver/1]

Notes[]

  • In Legacy of Kain: Defiance, when Raziel rebels against him, the Elder God eschews the use of force fields, instead using his own appendages to impede his disloyal servant.[Defiance/2] However, in his battle against Kain in the Vampire Citadel, the Elder does summon energy shields to protect his central eye, which may relate back to the Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver barriers.[Defiance/13]
