Cadmus was supposedly a merchant, who had recently left the city "in haste". In In Darkness We Gather, When Kain passed through the Lower City, he entered a large town square (by Southgate Tram Station), where he found a male Peasant NPC, selling off Cadmus' former "produce"[BO2].
Cadmus may not have left Meridian by choice - the peasant selling off Cadmus' "produce" (as it is labelled on the stall)[BO2] notes that it "seems he had to leave the city in haste" and he "left all this behind", perhaps implying that he was either murdered, like Durden before him, or possibly (like humans in later chapters) he has been kidnapped and taken to the Hylden City as a Slave.
Cadmus is described as a "merchant", but this would be unusual as the NPC's at this stage in the game are Peasants (Merchant NPC's will not appear until Chapter 7:The Canyons[BO2]), it is possible that Cadmus' merchant status applies more to his 'job description', as it were (peasant NPC's are frequently seen selling produce at stalls). The NPC who replaces Cadmus is also described in scripts as a "Merchant" (despite having a 'Peasant' character model[BO2])and accordingly he also works at a stall selling 'produce'[BO2] - presumably both stall and 'produce' belonged originally to Cadmus himself.
